Introduction


This 14 Day Tour by Rail, Road & River commenced at London St. Pancras with a journey via Eurostar to Paris where we changed Stations for the journey via SNCF TGV train to Biarritz for an overnight stay. On Day 2 we travelled down to San Sebastion by Road to join a RENFE train to Salamanca with a brief stopover at Valladolid for lunch. On Day 3 a tour of Salamanca was enjoyed followed by some free time to explore this ancient City. 

On Day 4 we travelled by road to Barca de Alva in Portugal to join a boat cruise on the River Douro as far as Regua  where had a two night stopover. On Day 5 we travelled back up the Douro Valley  to Pinhao for a wine tasting and some more free time befor returning to Regua. On Day 6 we again travelled by train down to Porto for a three night Stay. On Day 7 we had a trip by road to the ancient town of Guimaraes and then on to Bom Jesus @ Braga. Day 8 was a free day in porto which enabled us to explore this fine City using the local Tram Network. On Day 9 we travelled down to Lisbon by train for another 2 night stopover in the capital City of Portugal. on Day 10 we enjoyed a conducted tour of the City by Tram & Bus followed on Day 11 by a Train Trip to the Moorish City of Sintra which was the Summer retreat of Portuguese Royalty. On Day 11 we had some free time before boaring the overnight sleeper train back to San Sebastian for a further 2 night stopover. On Day 13 we travelled by road down to the Port City of Bilbao which has the Guggenheim Museum among its many attractions. On Day 14 we travelled by road to Hyundaye in France to catch the TGV train to Paris and then back to London via Eurostar.
